Love the work is a saying that I saw on my Twitter feed recently. I can’t get it out of my head now.

The saying struck a chord with me because I’ve been goofing off too much.

Not goofing off as in not doing much that I think is productive.

I mean goofing off by surfing the web. checking e-mail every time I see the mail icon in my taskbar, and watching too many YouTube videos. In my defense, some of them are educational.

So, I keep repeating the mantra when I feel like I’m drifting.

Love the work

Love the work.

Yesterday, I added 74 canned e-mail messages to Dubsado that I got from Jennifer Bourn’s Profitable Project Plan course.

Love the work.

I wrote this blog post.

Love the work.

I made a phone call that I didn’t want to make.

Love the work.

Even love the work when it’s not, such as when it’s over 100 degrees outside during a nasty heatwave.

(Can you tell that I’m trying to pump myself up?)

A 12-Step Process

You can’t just jump right into loving the work. It’s a process.

Your body will also tell you when it’s time to relax. My body and brain feel like I’m running a half-marathon. The summer heat doesn’t help. But my body and brain aren’t used to being engaged as often.

In my case, migraines and medications are a big reason why. But medications are helping me get more done than I thought, especially during a nasty heatwave.

I’ll probably feel better when (or if) I don’t get distracted as much.

And I’ll feel better when I see the results I want.

Still…

But I know that I need to pay attention to the dialog box in front of my face that says, “Bandwidth exceeded.” I think I may have finally learned not to say yes to everything.

So, I’ll still make time to goof off. It’s still healthy…if I do it right.

And I’ll still love the work.

After I watch a couple of other videos.
